Buku Abel - Natural Ethiopia
Buku Abel - Natural Ethiopia
This offering from Buku Abel is a beautiful representation of the syrupy sweetness and bright acidity that often comes from natural process Ethiopian coffees. We enjoy this coffee as a fruit-forward filter brew offering and as a single origin espresso paired with milk.
Wondafrash Edema has worked in coffee for over 10 years. He began his career as a coffee exporter selling coffees grown by his family. Ethiopia changed its laws in 2019, allowing exporters to also act as producers. Once this legislation was implemented, Wondafrash began farming his own coffee and built the Buku Abel Washing Station.
This natural lot is comprised of coffee sourced from 20 different farmers located near Buku Abel. The harvested coffee is spread on African drying beds within 24 hours of being picked. To prevent the cherries from drying out too fast, the beds are only opened for a few hours in the morning and again in the evening. The cherries remain on the beds to dry for a period of 12-14 days. This extended drying time allows the beans to absorb more flavor from the fruit.
We taste notes of: Canned Peach, Meyer Lemon, and Tootsie Roll
*All coffee is roasted to order every Tuesday. Orders placed before 8am on Tuesdays will be roasted Tuesday and shipped on Wednesday.
